The Beach and not only

Entroterra Rimini

The Adriatic coast is famous for its large white sandy beaches, its nightlife, for the friendly atmosphere of its hotels and it's delicious specialties.

The truth, however, is that once you leave the area that most characterizes Rimini, the  one with the promenade and the beach, there is  a stunning range of possible destinations  to visit  in order to live an amazing day.

Just head towards the the center of Rimini to understand that it is a city with a long history , which still preserves precious relics of long ago , despite the violent bombing that razed it during the Second World War .
Among these, the Tiberius Bridge and the Arch of Augustus built during  the Roman period, the Medieval Castle of Sigismondo and the  Malatesta Temple.

Advancing a few kilometers into the valley of the Marecchia river you can visit many small picturesque villages , often dominated by the imprenable fairy-tale castles : the nearest town is Santarcangelo di Romagna, a pretty village about ten kilometers from Rimini that  each year in July, comes alive for the International Theatre Festival held in  the square.

Continuing the exploration of the valley you meet Verucchio, with it's large  castle and the archaeological museum dedicated to the civilization of Villanovans, which flourished here during  the Iron Age.
Continuing the journey towards Arezzo you meet San Leo, a village situated on a huge rock spire above the valley, and  you enter the center through a single narrow road carved into the rock. Here you can visit the Duomo, the church and the castle.
It is said that Dante was inspired by Saint Leo for his imagine of purgatory.

We Recommend a  stop in Feltria Sant'Agata, where in October a famous truffle festival is held and where the Mariani Theatre  was recently renovated ,a wooden jewel that is accessed from the main square, and was chosen for its acoustic by Gassman and particularly worth a visit.

Another beauty  to visit is the castle of Montebello, located a few kilometers from Rimini, perched on a hill where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Romagna.
The castle has it's origins in the  Renaissance and was renovated in 1989, it offers many original tapestries and is famous for the mystery of "Azzurrina" a little girl that disappeared into thin air in the second half of 1300 and that is still occasionally heard crying  from basements.
